Manager Overview:
Cyan Investment Management Pty Ltd (Cyan) is a Melbourne based boutique funds management business established in 2013. The portfolio managers, who are also the major shareholders and directors of Cyan, are Graeme Carson and Dean Fergie, have over 50 years of combined industry experience. Dean Fergie (Founding Director and Portfolio Manager) was previously the founder and a major shareholder of OC Funds Ltd (formerly Opis Capital Limited), a boutique Australian equities fund manager. During his tenure, OC's funds returned an average annualised excess performance 5% p.a. above their respective benchmarks, and funds under management grew to over $350m across more than 1000 individual clients. Fergie was also responsible for the company's funds obtaining strong ratings from the major investment consultants such as Lonsec, Mercers, Standard and Poors, Zenith and Van Eyk, and the funds were added to numerous financial planning networks' "Approved Product Lists" or APL's. Fergie holds formal qualifications including Master of Applied Finance and Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He currently also sits on the Investment Committee of Canterbury Funds Management. Graeme Carson (Founding Director and Portfolio Manager) has over 25 years' experience in Australian Financial markets, having held roles in both stockbroking and funds management. The majority of his career has been focused on researching and valuing ASX listed companies of all sizes across many different sectors. Carson has worked for companies including Macquarie Bank, Bankers Trust and Bell Potter Securities, and has developed a passion for identifying and analysing high quality companies offering unrealised value for investors. His formal qualifications include a Bachelor of Business from Monash University in Melbourne. |
Fund/Strategy Overview:
The Cyan C3G Fund operates as a wholesale unregistered managed investment scheme under a unit trust structure. The Fund primarily invests in ASX listed companies outside the ASX 100, and typically holds between 20 - 40 stocks.
Cyan C3G Fund is based on the investment philosophy which can be defined as a comprehensive, clear and considered process focused on delivering growth. These are identified through stringent filter criteria and a rigorous research process. The Manager uses a proprietary stock filter in order to eliminate a large proportion of investments due to both internal characteristics (such as gearing levels or cash flow) and external characteristics (such as exposure to commodity prices or customer concentration). Typically, the Fund looks for businesses that fit one or more of the following criteria: a) under researched, b) fundamentally undervalued, c) have a catalyst for re-rating. The Manager seeks to achieve this investment outcome by actively managing a portfolio of Australian listed securities. When the opportunity to invest in suitable securities cannot be found, the manager may reduce the level of equities exposure and accumulate a defensive cash position. Whilst it is the company's intention, there is no guarantee that any distributions or returns will be declared, or that if declared, the amount of any returns will remain constant or increase over time. The Fund does not invest in derivatives and does not use debt to leverage performance. However, companies in which the Fund invests may be leveraged. |
